Sam and Sydney go to work

Today I took Sam and Sydney to my monthly managers' meeting so my boss and co-workers could meet them. We were welcomed in to an after-the-fact shower where Sam and Sydney got some fun gifts and were spoiled with attention- luckily they were all dolled up for the occasion!

Date Night May 23, 2010

Aunt Janessa arrived Sunday to stay for one week. She can't believe how much Sam and Sydney have grown since she last saw them in NICU.

Since her visit overlapped with Grandma Lu's visit- Tom and I got to have a night out and treated ourselves to Oceanaire then home for a nap. What a perfect evening- just a little bit different from date nights in the past!

The celebration continued Friday when we had Sarah over for ribs, fried pickles, and key lime pie!

First Mother's Day

To celebrate Mother's Day Tom, Syd, & Sam got me a card with a Starbucks gift card (much needed) and a Coldstone gift card. Tom even had Syd & Sam "sign" my card. I also got to take a nap- best gift ever!!

Grammy Kim made us a turkey dinner and gave me a picture frame about twins personalized with Sam and Sydney.

Grammy Kim came to spend the week with us last week. She was a big help with the twins all week but especially at their doctor's appointment Thursday. Sam weighed 7lbs 6oz and Syd is up to 6lbs 3oz.

We also had our first outing to Target- despite the fact that our double stroller doesn't fit into my car (how frustrating!!) to pick up groceries for Tom's birthday dinner.

Grandma and Grandpa Thornton's visit

Grandma Thornton has been visiting us this week and helping out a bunch- from meals, to holding babies, to daily/nightly feedings -it was great having an extra set of hands.

Grandpa Thornton arrived Thursday night (5/6) to join the fun!

Tom was on vacation this week... It was a little different as we didn't travel anywhere but it was nice having him here with us to share our daily/nightly routine. He was a big help!!

One month old

Sam and Sydney are 1 month old (4 weeks) as of Wednesday April 28, 2010. They have grown so much already- Sydney is 5lbs and Sam is 6lbs 2oz

Grandma Lu to the rescue

Grandma Lu came out to help Thursday April 22nd- Saturday May 1st- she was a huge help even with the late night feedings.

Sam must have missed Sydney because right after she was discharged he started eating like a champ and was discharged 3 short days later.

The NICU nurses thought we should update the photos on the door since Sam and Sydney were getting bigger and Easter had passed.

Big Day April 16, 2010

April 16th was a big day for Sam and Sydney.

It was the first day Sydney weighed over 4lbs and could be moved to an open crib- we decided to move her to co-bed with her brother.


It was also the first tub bath

Easter April 3rd & 4th, 2010

To celebrate Easter in the NICU some of the nurses suggested Sam and Sydney have their first photo shoot complete with bunny ears and plastic eggs.

For Easter the hospital gave each one an Easter basket with a book and a toy and Reed's Relief gave them a soft blanket and tiny hat.

Kangaroo Care April 1, 2010

On April 1st Tom and I got to hold each baby for the first time. We held them skin to skin (kangaroo care) while they received their tube feeding.

Birth Day March 31, 2010

After making it to 34 weeks and 2 days the Thornton twins decided it was time for their arrival. After an interesting ride to the hospital (40 minutes away in rush hour traffic) we made it to the hospital at 8am where I was told I was 9.5cm and they would be arriving soon.
Sydney Paige arrived at 9:32am weighing 3lbs 9oz

Sam Patrick made his appearance an hour later at 10:30am weighing 4lbs 11oz. He wasn't so excited to arrive early and gave us quite a scare but once he was wisked away to NICU he improved quickly!

There were several people anxious to visit the twins once they arrived!

Grandma Lu and Aunt Janessa came later that night to visit too!
